K-12 English Tutors Needed (Okemos)
A local ESL teacher, Ms. Missy Sainz, reached out because there are many international families in Okemos who would like their children (potentially ranging in ages from kindergarten through 12th grade) to have individual English tutoring to help them develop their language proficiency as much as possible in the limited time they will be living in the area. Usually families would like their children to be tutored from 1-2 hours per week. Tutoring would likely start in May, and depending on the family’s needs and wishes, this could continue throughout the summer (June-August). Tutors are usually paid approximately $30/hour.
Tutoring sessions usually happen at the Okemos Public Library, and tutors should have a good understanding of phonics and emergent literacy skills. Tutoring sessions often focus on basic vocabulary, answering questions, and other speaking skills. Ms. Sainz is looking for a workbook to help support planning and structuring tutoring sessions. If you would be interested in tutoring emergent bilingual students in Okemos, please contact Ms. Missy Sainz at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
Note from your career advisor: tutoring opportunities vetted by a school or offered in a public place (like a library) are fine. Tutoring privately in a stranger’s home is never advised.
